Day 110- The Long Journey Home

April 20, 2011

Oh what a day!  The day of travel back home is never much fun but today was extra stressful.  It started out innocently enough with beautiful weather, bags packed and everyone out the door on time.  Here is our annual group shot with my uncooperative models.

About 15 minutes in to our almost 1 1/2 hour trek to Tampa Airport we got a flat tire.  To make this situation even more unbelievable you should know that this tire was brand new.  Less than 24 hours on the car and flat.  What are the odds of that?!  30 minutes waiting for AAA and at least 6 phone calls to locate us and we were starting to get nervous.  I thought for sure we were going to miss our flight.  Just picture C in his stroller on the side of the highway, R peeing in the bushes and the triple AAA tech getting bit by fire ants.  Top that off with all of our luggage in a sad pile on the shoulder.

Finally the tire was fixed (thank God for full sized spares!) and we sped the rest of the way to the airport.  We managed to get 2 kids, bags and ourselves through check in, security and a monorail ride to the terminal in time.  Don't ask me how!

I guess in the end all that matters is that we are all back safe and sound.  Home at last!  It was a great trip and I know R will be talking about it for a long time to come.  I am very thankful that the boys have this chance every year to spend with their great grandparents.  Not too many people have that opportunity!
